What is appendicitis?

Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix. The appendix is ​​a vermiform (worm-shaped) organ located in the first portion of the large intestine. Signs and symptoms of appendicitis include: pain that begins suddenly in the umbilical region (navel) or epigastrium (stomach) and then migrates to the right side of the abdomen. The pain may be sharp and increase in intensity when moving (e.g walking, sneezing and coughing). Also, many patients may develop nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fever, constipation, bloating.

What is appendectomy?

Appendectomy is the surgical removal of the appendix. This intervention is most often performed urgently and can be performed both classically and laparoscopically (more popularly “laser”).

How do we prepare for appendectomy?

The preparation of the patient is done in collaboration with the attending physician and involves dietary restrictions, specific medication, etc.

What is the hospitalization period?

In the absence of complications, the hospitalization period is around 3-4 days.
